Hot Wheels continues to blaze tracks at SEMA! Debuting in 1967, only one year prior to the debut of Hot Wheels, the SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) show has become the single largest annual event in Las Vegas. And when Hot Wheels joins the action, you know it’s “Go big, or go home.”

Hot Wheels Ford Transit ConnectBeginning with the 1:1 Twin Mill in 2001, Hot Wheels has delivered such SEMA show stoppers as the Deora II (in 2003) and last year’s Hot Wheels Edition Camaro (partnered with Chevrolet). The big debut from Hot Wheels this year — partnered with Ford Motor Company — was the Hot Wheels Ford Transit Connect.

Hot Wheels designer Fraser Campbell’s concept for the Hot Wheels Transit Connect was chosen from submissions by the entire Hot Wheels design team. With Fraser as lead designer and help from Hot Wheels Manager of Product Design Phil Riehlman, Hot Wheels Vice President Felix Holst, the Ford Motor Company team and Michigan-based custom builder Ice 9 Group, this van started rocking.

Also, with the help of Picture Car Warehouse’s Billy Hammon, the Team Hot Wheels Rip Rod was given a slick new paint job (as a companion piece to the Hot Wheels Transit Connect) and an engine upgrade with a new Ford 1.0 liter ecoboost engine that will debut next year. The duo shows up ready to hit the track at any speedway and take on all challengers.

Scheduled to go on tour, the Hot Wheels Transit Connect has already appeared to great fan acclaim at the Cars & Coffee event in Irvine, CA on November 9, and the L.A. Auto Show. Also, it wouldn’t be Hot Wheels without a down-scale version, so watch for that to debut in Spring 2014!

Check out the gallery here.

Not to rest on our laurels, we also created a spectacle with the Hot Wheels Slot Machine. Filled with Hot Wheels and Ford goodies and prizes, our Slot Machine was nine feet tall and six feet wide and mimics the sounds and lights of an actual slot machine. It drew throngs of fans of all ages, who lined up for their chance to pull and get prizes from Hot Wheels die-cast cars, sunglasses, keychains, license plate holders and more. There were over 3,500 winners throughout the SEMA show!

SEMA Twitter Contest WinnerLastly, our Twitter sweepstakes reached nearly 700,000 fans and awarded five @Hot_Wheels followers with a  special Hot Wheels American muscle prize pack. One grand prize winner will also have an image of his Ford Fusion “Hot Wheels-ized” by our own Hot Wheels graphic designer Ryu Asada! We’ll make sure to show you that piece when it’s complete — we expect it to sizzle.

Did you know that SEMA’s first show in ’67 was held in the basement of Dodgers Stadium? SEMA and Hot Wheels have come a long way since 1967-68. What will we do next year? We can’t say yet, but we’re sure it will be hot.

The 14th Annual Hot Wheels Collectors Nationals breaks into the windy city in 2014! Step on the gas and meet us in Chicago. Ticket sales open to the public (non-Hot Wheels Newsletter members) on December 1.

What: 14th Annual Hot Wheels® Collectors Nationals

When: Wednesday, April 2 – Sunday, April 6, 2014

Where: Doubletree by Hilton – Oak Brook, IL

Info:  Click here to purchase tickets or for more information.

Plenty of fun, room-to-room trading, autograph sessions and more are included with your Nationals ticket. There are also several special events and charity events available to paid ticket holders which require additional specific ticket purchases in advance. (Specific details can be found in the confirmation packet you receive once you buy your tickets to the Nationals.) Here are those events:

“Evening With Chris Parker” Dinner: The winner finally gets his chicken dinner! HotWheelsCollectors.com’s associate producer will be honored at the dinner on Thursday night, April 3. Dinner guests will receive a souvenir dinner car (produced by Mattel, limited to no more than 2,000 pieces), t-shirt, pin, and more. Note that seats are limited.

HWC Vending Machine: You’ll want to sign up for as many pulls as you can get! Special Hot Wheels merchandise will be loaded in the vending machine, and you can’t win it if you don’t sign up.

Charity Events

The Charity Auction on Friday night is included with your admission ticket to the show, as is the fairly new Silent Auction (for which you can find the board at the Charity table, bid on your favorites, and winners will be announced Friday night just before the live auction begins). But there are also a few charity events that require additional specific ticket purchases in advance. All charity monies benefit the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, so we urge you to participate.

No-Limit Texas Hold ‘Em Poker Tournament: Beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday morning, your participation helps benefit the Children’s Miracle Network hospitals. Great prizes, too. Because it’s so much fun, everyone wins!

Button Bingo: There will be two sessions during the show. The first session will be on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. and the second session on Friday at 1:30 p.m.

Hot Wheels Convention Mania Game: Still the latest and still fun! Begins Thursday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.

NOTE: Tickets for the Nationals are $70.00 each ($75 if purchased online) and good for all five days. You may purchase tickets online (see link above) or by mail. Tickets are limited and sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Ticket sales will end March 10 or when the last ticket is sold, whichever occurs first. This event is produced by Collectors Events Unlimited, LLC under license from Mattel.

You’ve earned plenty of Rewards points this year, haven’t you? If you’re a Red Line Club member, you earn those points when you take advantage of many of our HWC offers during the specified Priority Window. The points are redeemable for the very special edition Rewards Priority Car, which you can only get from us by being in the Red Line Club. Plus, there are even more products you can get with your points.Beatnik Bandit

Our Rewards Priority Car edition for 2013 is the Beatnik Bandit — a very special tribute to car culture icon Ed “Big Daddy” Roth. His actual 1:1 car, a celebrated legend of car shows in the early 1960s, was built on a modified 1955 Olds chassis with futuristic bubble top and joystick steering. Our 1:64 casting was a member of the very first year of Hot Wheels releases.

Beatnik Bandit (SKU# BLR10)

  • Body Color: Spectraflame light green finish
  • Deco: Lime green and chartreuse deco
  • Body Type: Mirrorized ZAMAC
  • Wheels: Real Riders five-spoke wheels w/red stripe tampo
  • Base: Full-metal, Mirrorized ZAMAC chassis and engine
  • Window Color: Clear
  • Interior Color: Pearl white w/hand-painted details

Besides the Beatnik Bandit, you can also use your points for some of our past great HWC Series cars editions and hot Multi-car packs you may have missed. Want to pick up an extra for yourself or someone else? Cash in those points in the Shop for any available releases from HWC Series Six, Seven, Eight and Nine and the following Multi-car packs:

  • Hot Wheels Since ’68 Hot Rods 4-car pack
  • Hot Wheels Since ’68 Muscle Car 4-car pack
  • Hot Wheels Since ’68 Originals 4-car pack
  • Hot Wheels 100% Boulevard Burners 2-car pack
  • Hot Wheels 100% Car Show 2-car pack
  • Hot Wheels 100% MOPAR Muscle 2-car pack
  • Hot Wheels Real Riders Dodge Challenger 2-car pack

How It Works

All year long, RLC members earn points every time they purchase an HWC Series Twelve car or an RLC sELECTIONs car during the Priority Window of availability (24 hours for the Series Twelve cars and one week for the sELECTIONs cars). These points are added to your “My Account” page in the Shop after your credit card has been charged and your purchases have shipped.

  • Each HWC Series Twelve car you purchase is worth three points
  • Each RLC sELECTIONs car you purchase is worth two points
  • Occasionally, we may offer points for other sales; watch each sale for details.

Beginning November 07, 2013, you can use your points to place an order for the cars you want. You must have accumulated at least nine points, since each item will cost you nine points. This includes the Rewards Priority Car and the HWC Series cars or Multi-car packs. You can order as many cars, or as many of each car, as you have enough points for at the time you place your order — but you must have at least nine points to redeem for any one RLC 2013 Rewards Priority Car or HWC Series Six, Seven, Eight or Nine cars or Multi-car packs you order.

For example, if you have only ten points, you are eligible to order only one item, and the other point remains and can be combined with any more points you gain during further purchases this year. At the end of the year, any unused points are lost — Rewards points will not carry over into the following year. Again, make sure that you have enough points for the items you are ordering, and also note: order carefully, as orders are final and cannot be changed once placed.

NOTE: It is each member’s sole responsibility to check their Shop account to confirm how many points have been accumulated. Make sure you have enough points for the items you are ordering (number of items x 9). If you do not have enough points for the total amount of items ordered, or all required fields of the online order form are not accurately completed, your request will be deemed invalid. Make sure you read the RLC Member Agreement for all the rules.

Note also that there will be two separate order forms: one for the Rewards Priority Car, and one for the HWC Series Six, Seven, Eight and Nine cars and Multi-car packs. You will need to use the proper form for each.

Since the Rewards Priority Car will be made to order at the end of the year, you have until 10:00 PM PT on Friday, November 22, 2013 to place your order. (This will be after all of our sales of the year where Rewards points are offered, so you can use all the points you accumulate.) You can place orders before the final date (whenever you have enough points to do so), or you can wait and place one order for all the items you want at once. Either way, you should have plenty of time to place your order. However, the Rewards Priority Car will not be produced until after the November 22 cutoff date, once all the received orders have been processed.

Each time you place an order, you should receive an e-mail from us confirming which item or items you’ve just ordered. Please be patient – this will not be immediate. Then, once your order has been entered into the system, the points you have used for that order will be deducted from the total Rewards Points in your Shop account. It may take up to five business days for this deduction to display.

NOTE: All the HWC Six, Series Six, Seven, Eight and Nine cars and Multi-car packs you order from each membership will be shipped at once to the same address. The Rewards Priority car will likely ship in spring of 2014, and we will notify you by e-mail once shipping is under way. There is no shipping cost (though residents of Canada will still need to pay a $5.00 USD duty processing fee).

So check your Shop account regularly to see how many points you have and how many points you’re going to need. You can find the Rewards Priority Car in the HWC Offers department, on the RLC Rewards shelf. Don’t forget to reward yourself!
